HeyOtto
Creative AI for ages roughly 8–18 with a parent dashboard.
Our verdict: caution
Read the rationale below. This is not a certification, endorsement, or guarantee of safety.
- What it is
- A fuller-featured kids/teens AI: chat, creative projects, coding help with sandboxed previews, images and more, wrapped in family controls.
- Age guidance
- Marketing site focuses on ages 8–18; privacy policy also describes a service for kids ages 4–18. Only adults create accounts; under-13 use requires verifiable parental consent (payment verification described).
- Parent controls
- Parent dashboard with searchable transcripts, AI summaries, topic controls/blocks, usage limits, and configurable safety alerts. Parents can review and delete children’s conversations.
- Privacy / data (UK/EU framing)
- Controller: BerryWell, LLC (United States). Strong COPPA language. GDPR section exists for EEA/UK users; data may be processed/stored in the US with SCCs claimed. Uses multiple third-party AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI named). Says children’s/teens’ conversations are not used to train foundation models. Analytics tools may be used. UK/EU families should weigh US hosting and multi-provider AI routing carefully.
Why this verdict
Caution for UK/EU parents — capable controls, but US-centric data posture.
HeyOtto scores well on parent visibility (transcripts, alerts, topic blocks). That is often better than general adult chatbots. We still mark caution because the operator is a US LLC, international transfers are expected, marketing/privacy age bands are not identical, and several external model providers process prompts.
Stay aware
- Prefer purpose-built tools with EU/UK hosting if data residency is a hard requirement for your family or school.
- Read the live COPPA/privacy pages before enabling marketplace publishing or public project sharing features.
- Creative features (code, images, video) raise different risks than plain Q&A — supervise early use.
