Caution Teen 13–15 framing Reviewed 16 October 2026

Google Gemini

Google’s consumer AI apps — under-13 Family Link access unavailable in the UK.

Our verdict: caution

Read the rationale below. This is not a certification, endorsement, or guarantee of safety.

What it is
Google’s chat-style AI assistant across web and apps, used for questions, learning help, and creative tasks.
Age guidance
Own Google accounts for Gemini are generally 13+. Google documents supervised under-13 access via Family Link in some regions, but states Gemini Apps are not available for supervised accounts in the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Extra content filters apply for minors signed into a Google Account.
Parent controls
Where Family Link supervised access exists, parents can enable/disable Gemini Apps. In the UK/EEA that supervised under-13 path is not available per Google’s help page. For teens, rely on Google Account settings, activity controls, and device restrictions. 'Keep activity' is not available to users under 13 where applicable.
Privacy / data (UK/EU framing)
Gemini is part of Google’s wider account and data ecosystem. Activity settings matter. Google’s family help pages warn that filters are imperfect and that children should not treat Gemini as a person or confide personal problems. Check Gemini Apps privacy notice and Google Account Data & privacy controls for the signed-in age.

Why this verdict

Caution for UK teens with supervision. Avoid as a solution for UK under-13s — Google says supervised Gemini Apps access is not available in the UK/EEA/Switzerland.

Parents sometimes assume “Family Link will handle Gemini for kids.” In the UK that under-13 supervised path is not offered. For 13+, Gemini is still a general AI with minor-oriented filters, not a dedicated children’s service with parent chat review.
